Rich in history, Jupiter’s most identifiable landmark, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, was built in the 1800’s. The earliest known records of the town date as far back as 1565. Jupiter was originally named Jobe by the Spaniards, after the native Jobe people, later the British renamed the town Jupiter as an Anglicization of the Roman word ‘Jove’, meaning Jupiter.
Adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, Jupiter not only offers the coziness of a small beach town, but also the benefits of a larger city. The Abacoa Town Center is full of specialty shops and boutiques, restaurants, bars, an outdoor amphitheater, and daily entertainment.
Jupiter has a rich cultural life with the Maltz Jupiter Theater offering multiple theater productions every season. The theater even offers classes in dance, voice, and acting for youth and adults.
Notable residents of Jupiter include singer Celine Dion, actor and director Burt Reynolds, tennis players Venus and Serene Williams, and former professional basketball player Michael Jordan.
